Hello, Macaroni Kid family!
I'm Jen and I'm excited to be your new publisher for Macaroni Kid North Huntingdon-Greensburg-Latrobe! I've been subscribing to this local edition for several years and have found it to be a valuable resource for families, so when I saw that MacKid NHT was seeking a new publisher, I decided to go for it!
A bit about me: My husband and I are the parents to a sweet and creative third-grade daughter who is into art, music, NASA, and baking. She has already decided--at 8 years old--that she wants to attend culinary school and open her own bakery at some point. She also told me that once she opens her shop, she'll give me all the free apple pie I want, so I'm 1000+ percent behind this plan.
As for my professional background, it's a myriad of experience--and this reflects how my life has evolved since becoming a mom! I've been freelance writing for local and national publications for many years and have been running a parenting and product review blog, One Committed Mama, for the past 5 years. I also spent about 10 years teaching English to area high school students, but resigned in 2012 to stay home with my kiddo. In addition to my freelance gig, I also work part-time as a marketing communications manager for a super-cool tech company in Lawrenceville. Am I busy? Yes. Do I love the flexibility and and control that my hodgepodge of a career offers? Absolutely.
I've lived in the North Huntingdon area for about 15 years, and my husband is a Norwin grad. When I quit my full-time teaching job and became a work-at-home mom, I began hunting for fun activities that I could do with my then-2-year-old. I was happy to discover that our local communities offer a wealth of fun and affordable (oftentimes, FREE) activities for kids and families!
My personal passions include healthy living, fitness (especially yoga), the Penguins, music, cooking, baking and reading, and, of course, writing. We enjoy spending time exploring our area's many attractions, festivals, restaurants and local businesses!
